Who is Test Shirts
Test Shirts, is the new name for Cross Over Ts.com a t-shirt company established by that jon jackson, and these people in the spring of 2005.
That was also when we officially started the freelance graphic design company desigu.
How did we Get Started?
In the early spring of 2005 a friend of mine suggested that i design and sell Christian t-shirts, i was not very busy with the graphic design business at the time so i said “Yeah that WOULD be a cool idea.” and didn’t think too much about it. He mentioned it several more times, and i began to design a couple of Christian shirts, to apease him. After calling around town to get some prices on printing t-shirts, and finding out that it was going to cost between 8$ – 10$ apiece usually with a minimum of at least $25.
So my father in law posed the question: “Well how much would it cost for you to print them yourself?”
“I don’t know…” I said.
“Why don’t you find out and let me know.” He said.
“Ummmm, ok” I said. “Hey Dani (my wife) can you find out how much it would cost to get into screen printing”
“Sure.” She said.
So several days later we had a couple of different options:
1. A 6 Color / 4 station screen printing press with a conveyor dryer, flash dryer and “Everything you would need to get started”
2. A 4 Color / 2 station screen printing press that was more expensive, and came with less pieces.
So, we presented our findings to my father in law,
“Well if you want to do it, i’ll loan you the money” He said
“Ummmm… Ok…” I said.
and with that, we had a screen printing machine on the way.
Our First Order
Our first screne printing order was for a family reunion, and the shirt design is one that i would try to avoid printing even now with the amount of registration that is required. But some how (the help of sweet baby Jesus) we made it through that job and the subsequent jobs as well.
Trial & Error
It took me about 3 years before i realized how to make sure your screen print designs don’t fade out after a couple of washes. There was an ungodly amount of trial and error in the whole learning process of getting into screen printing, which vicariously produced a stack of missprinted shirts in the corner of my print shop, we refer to these as “Test Shirts” because when we set up a new design, you print it on one of these test shirts before printing it on the clients shirt.
The reason we are changing our name from Cross Over Ts, to Test Shirts.
As with the pile of shirts that is in the corner of my shop, i have made a lot of mistakes in life and the culmination of all of these mistakes made me the person i am today.
